Tasued post utme form 2015 is out. The Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun wishes to inform prospective candidates that the POST-UTME screening application form for the 2015/2016 academic session is now available. THOSE WHO MAY APPLY (i) Candidates who chose TASUED as their first most preferred institution in the 2015 Unified Tertiary  Matriculation Examination (UTME), and scored a minimum of 180 in 2015 UTME. (ii) Direct Entry candidates who chose TASUED as their first most preferred and/or second most preferred institution for the 2015/2016 Academic Session and have applied through Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB). Hmm! It took me time to compile this,but I am actually doing this to help all the unilag aspirants, the remaining is left for you to do. First of all, you need to know how your aggregate score is calculated. The utme total mark is 400 and also the post utme total mark is 40. To get one’s aggregate, your utme score is divided by 8 and then your post utme score is multiplied by 1.25. Let me give a quintessential. If one gets 250 in utme, the person divides the 250 by 8 to get his/ her score over 50, I.e 250/8=31.25, therefore the person scored 31.25/50 in his utme. And if one gets 30/40 in the post utme, the person should multiply his score by 1.25 to get his/ her score over 50, therefore if the person got 30, his score over 50 is 30*1.5=37.5 which means the person got 31.5 in his utme and 37.5 in his post utme, the addition of both scores would give you your aggregate. The person’s aggregate over 100 is 31.5+37.5=69% which is his/ her score. I hope you now know how to calculate your aggregate. Ok let’s move to another important aspect which is the examination proper and the preparation. 2) People have been asking; what subjects are we writing in our post utme? Is it tough? How does it look like? Well! These questions are very intelligent ones. For your post utme, you would be assessed with three subjects which are Mathematics, English language and general paper. I. The Mathematics contains 50% further mathematics, and 50% pure mathematics, but note, no calculus is involved, by calculus I mean no integration or differentiation. You could see expansion, simplify or prove that…polynomials. Then your statistics like mean,median,range,mode,etc for normal maths and do not forget probability. Sorry I almost forgot, your indices is also important. II. As for your English language, do not be scared, there is no comprehension because of the Little time. Just practice your concord, normal lexis (fill in the gap), Little Oral english, antonyms and synonyms. III. For your general paper, just know things about unilag like the present vice chancellor’s name, the former v.c’s name, the year the institution was established or founded. Also learn about this years presidential election. Just listen to news at this period. If you are a lover of cartoons and movies, you better start being a lover of world news and local Nigerian news. Also visit www.generalworldknowledge.com for general knowledge like the longest river, the highest mountain bla bla… Also get a current affairs pamphlet of about 100 naira in the market, please buy the current one oooh!! I mean the one of 2014 and probably 2015, if you see that in the market. You should also study your utme past questions also, because unilag might decide to add your jamb combination in your general paper, like someone who did physics, chemistry, biology and English in utme can see the physics, chemistry and biology in the general paper, so don’t ignore or throw away your utme past questions, still keep practicing. But pay more attention to the maths,English and general paper. 3) I discovered that most people don’t know about the timing and how to go about it, that is why people study hard for the exam and still fail the exam. That is not your portion. Ok let’s start from here. You have forty questions in your post-utme with only thirty minutes to answer them. How difficult right? you see how unrealistic it looks, but it is possible, it takes intelligence and smartness to pass your utme not just intelligence. Oh! I almost forgot, the mathematics is 15 questions, English is 15 questions and general paper is 10 questions making it a total of 40 questions. Now when you enter the examination hall you must be confident and avoid distractions by other candidates or invigilators, complain if you have problem with your computer and pray before starting. You have done a cbt exam so I don’t need to lecture you about that. Let me give you a secret. If you have started, usually the questions are scattered, start from number one question, if you don’t know it, don’t skip it ooh! Click any answer and then write down that number that you don’t know, move to number two, if you know it, do it, if you are not sure still, just click on anything your mind directs you to and then write down the number so that if you are through and you still have time, you can still go back to those numbers, but if your time is up, at least you have clicked on something that is probably 50% right and 50% wrong. Just make sure you answer all the questions. Please and please, submit by yourself to avoid stories, click on the submit button, don’t Let it submit automatically, though there is nothing wrong in an automatic submission, but it is better you do it buy yourself at least 30 seconds till the expiration of your time. 4) Go early for your exam,please be punctual, unilag don’t accept poo! Sorry I used that. Note that scientific calculator is not allowed, all that are allowed are your normal calculator ( like jamb calculator), pencil or pen and your examination pass.(These would be communicated to you before your examination). 6) yea! Yea! I finally remembered after thinking so hard to remember the most important point. Some people have been questions like, what do I need to score to get finance, civil engineering, pharmacy etc and I have being given them a rather inconsequential and wrong answer(s), sorry for that. The right answer is that you should get 40 in your post utme. Aim for the highest score, don’t aim for 25 or 27 or worst 39. Aim for 40 and you would be surprised when you see yourself scoring 40, it is not impossible.

LAUTECH REGISTRATION PORTAL OPENED TO RETURNING STUDENT

At its meeting of Wednesday, June 17, 2015, Senate considered the need to have the student portals re-opened to allow 200-500 level students who were yet to register on account of their inability to pay their fees, consequent on the economic realities in the country, to do so before the commencement of the 2014/2015 Harmattan Semesters examinations. Senate eventually approved that: (i) the portals be re-opened immediately and be kept opened till midnight of Friday, July 10, 2015; (ii) the 2014/2015 Harmattan Semester Examinations should now commence as indicated below: (a) 100 level examinations - Monday, June 29, 2015; (b) 200 – 500 level examinations - Monday, July 13, 2015. All affected students are enjoined to take advantage of this Senate’s magnanimity and get registered before the expiration of the new deadline (i.e. midnight of Friday, July 10, 2015). Best wishes.

LASU CRISIS: GOV. AMBODE TO INTERVENE TO THE THREE MONTHS HOLD STRIKE

The action prevented the graduating students from receiving their certificates, leading to a suspension of what would have been a week-long convocation activities. The university authority had to quickly design a contingency plan that paved the way for the graduates to participate in the National Youth Service (NYSC) scheme. Already, a ministerial report, chronicling the background of the latest crisis, including suggestions on how to deal with it, has been forwarded to the governor by the university management. The crisis is also believed to have led to the sudden resignation, three weeks ago, of the chairman of the university’s governing council, Mr. Bode Augusto. Both the institution’s management and the unions have blamed each other for the latest crisis. The unions are demanding, among others, the payment of the balance of their salary increase arrears; promotion; regularisation of casual staff and the removal of the university’s acting chief security officer. They are also insisting that the vice chancellor be relieved of his duties. Despite the communiqué issued at the end of series of meetings between representatives of the Governing Council, University management and the four unions (ASUU-LASU, SSANU-ASUU, NAAT-LASU and NASU-ASUU) held on May 11, 16 and 20 at the Lagos State College of Medicine respectively, in which all contending parties agreed to allow peace to reign, the unions are yet to allow the university’s management team to enter the campus. Governor Ambode steps in In his bid to fully understand the issues, the governor recently met with the university management and the unions. A few days after the meeting, he approved the payment of the balance of the school fees paid by students of the institution, totaling N162.5 million, as a first step aimed at dousing the tension. School fees as albatross Former Governor Babatunde Fashola had introduced the fees to shore up the university’s dismal financial situation, to the chagrin of the students. He was, however, forced to reverse the decision in what analysts have described as a re-election strategy. The recently concluded governorship and presidential elections were said to have hampered Fashola from taking far-reaching decisions on the institution following the March 16 shut down, a few weeks to the elections. Vice Chancellors as victims The latest action by the unions was not the first time a LASU vice chancellor would be chased out of campus. The immediate past Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lateef Hussain was banished from the university campus by the same unions, which accused him of unsubstantiated misdeeds. Also, a former Vice Chancellor of the institution, the late Jadesola Akande, an outstanding Professor of Law, who was the institution’s first female vice chancellor between 1989 and 1993, and was reputed to have transformed the institution’s Law Faculty, was also chased out of campus. In the case of Enitan Bababunmi, a renowned Professor of Biochemistry who was appointed Vice Chancellor in 1993, he resigned his appointment abruptly in 1996 in exasperation, when he could no longer cope with the unions’ uncooperative attitude. Shortly after Prof. Peter Okebukola was appointed Acting Vice Chancellor by the defunct Col. Buba Marwa’s administration in 1996, he began to receive death threats when it was clear that Marwa was favourably disposed to confirming his appointment. The major grouse against Okebukola by the unions was that he was not a Lagos indigene. The re-appointment of Fatiu Ademola Akesode, a distinguished Professor of Paediatrics for a second term as Vice Chancellor of the institution in 2001 by the former Bola Tinubu administration, also triggered off a major crisis involving, this time, seven professors who were vehemently opposed to his reappointment. And despite several appeals by the state government and stakeholders to the aggrieved professors to sheathe the sword, the crisis continued until Akesode died suddenly on March 30, 2001. An angry Tinubu promptly sacked the seven combatants. Sources disclosed that the state government was tired of what is generally perceived as the unions’ excesses, with the groundswell of opinions within government circles calling for action to tackle the problem once and for all. Lagos State government’s inaction A source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: “The Lagos State government has so far not taken a decisive decision on LASU due mainly to political considerations. This has given room to endless lawlessness. However, it is now clear that for the university to return to the path of uninterrupted academic activities, something has to be done about the so-called unions. Lesson from UNILORIN “There are suggestions that the state government should adopt the University of Ilorin approach in dealing with the unions. Another suggestion is that the state government should sack the entire staff of the university, shut it down and recruit fresh staff members under strict conditions. “There is nowhere in the world where employees dictate the terms of employment to their employer. This is what LASU’s unions have turned themselves into. When they came to Alausa to demand that the Vice Chancellor should be sacked, they were told that it was not within their prerogative to tell the state government when a vice chancellor should be sacked or appointed. They not only want to dictate the salary they want to earn, they also want to dictate who should be appointed as the vice chancellor. This is unacceptable to the state government which owns the university.” The ASUU factor However, another source within the institution described the problem facing the university as multi-dimensional. According to him, a former vice chancellor of the institution is allegedly fuelling the crisis due to his own entrenched interest. Another on the senior management staff of the university, who is believed to be nursing the position of vice chancellor, the source added, is also allegedly encouraging the unions to demand the removal of the current vice chancellor, whom they suspect is eyeing a second term. His words: “Take the leadership of ASUU for instance. Its chairman is having issues with the management over his PhD degree, so it is not surprising that he wants Obafunwa out of the way. There’s another senior ASUU official who has been indicted over examination fraud to which he has confessed. His confession is on tape. He is also at the forefront of the Obafunwa-must-go campaign, which is also understandable. Then, some academic staff members have been found not to possess the ordinary level certificate. Besides, some of them, who collected funds from the university to study for their PhD courses abroad, neither produced the degree nor the funds they collected when the university asked questions. “With regard to NASU and SSANU, some of their members are also afraid of losing their jobs over the management’s decision that all staff members should produce their West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE) results. About 34 cases are currently before the governing council. So, the whole strategy is not really about the demands you see the unions display.
